Why Classroom4theFuture?
Throughout my career, I’ve had this active vision of what I want my classroom to be. The biggest part of that dream is walking into a classroom where the active and ongoing expectation that students are engaged with course content and they continually challenge and push one another to surpass classroom objectives. In this vision, I see groups of students huddled over copies of different texts, formulating driving questions, using text as evidence, and discussing with one another to build on collective knowledge in relation to meaningful concepts in class. I also envision a place where students are able to move around, group and restructure groups, can access technology, conference with teachers and peers, or work independently with minimal distractions. I also want the room to be reflective of who they are as students and reflect the things that they care about.
When the opportunity to apply for the grant came up, I knew that this would be one step in the direction of achieving this dream that follows me from year-to-year of my career. I am honored and humbled to be one of the recipients of the Classroom4theFuture grant, and I am excited to move forward with the design plan and learn some new instructional techniuqes along the way!

Here We Go!

Here in Room 128, we are a close-knit group in 620 square feet of space. My class size average is about 30 students, with several classes at 33 students. To say that we are constantly in each other's personal space would be an understatement. There is no such thing as personal space here, we are always in each other's business! The pictures below give you a small peek into our learning community, and may bring to the forefront some of the challenges that we have in regards to our learning space.
